Ellen started her comedy career in New Orleans, as host MC for a comedy club, called Clydes comedy club. Starting there, she started to tour around America doing small stand up gigs. Soon later she entered a contest for the network, Showtime, and won the comedy competition which launch her television career. She had a role in 2 sitcoms that were canceled only after one season. But here major successful show was title, Ellen. In 1997 while filming her 4th season, Ellen decided to make her big announcement to the world on the show. It was during her sitcom show where Ellen says she’s gay, and that stirred up a lot of controversy. She became the first gay lead character in a sitcom show, which sadly after got cancel the year after. But that did not stop Ellen from working hard and still pushing boundaries for the gay community. In 2003, Ellen returned to television with a day time, self-titled talk show, Ellen. Her talk show Ellen became a huge success and is only growing more popular now. 13 years later and Ellen is still winning emmy’s and other awards for her show. Ellen DeGeneres paved the way for a lot of gay people in Hollywood. She became an inspiration and a role model for the gay community by becoming one of the most successful gay female celebrity.
