                                     Self - Reflexion

 

 

For my student project, I select the options for the creative project approach.  I created a website where I can tell the world more about Harvey Milk, the visionary and hero of the gay community, and Ellen Lee DeGeneres the celebrity.

 

After watching the move “MILK” I was inspired to create a website about Harvey Milk. From the movie, Harvey Milk is shown as the hero, who brings hope to previous generation of queers.  He was a visionary and a soldier who fought for gay rights even at the expense of his own life. The threat of being shot while standing on the stage to convince people to fight for gay right was a common one that he encountered, but risked anyways. His messages were not only inspiring but preached to the community that they should start fighting for something, and make a progress towards human right regardless of gender, ethnicity, and color.  This passion that he held inspired him to run for office even with the threat of being killed if he won. However, he still fought and won for a seat on Board of San Francisco Supervisor overcoming the odds and standing as a beacon of hope to his own kind. His fame pushed him to talk and recorded all of his journey to for the fight for gay rights to be heard across the area. His voice recording reflected that he was not scared of death as long as he can bring back hope that has been lost in previous generation. His inspirational ways saved other young homosexuals from committing suicide by providing them hope. The movie “MILK” might be famous, but not everyone in the World knows about it. Because of the lack of exposure, I created a website so that way the world can know and learn about Milk and Harvey Milk. This knowledge will hopefully lead to no more hatred against queers.

 

I included Ellen story in the website because Ellen is a big influence in the gay community.  She broke many barriers that no female queers have broken while becoming worldly renown done in show business. She was the first actress who is openly gay in popular comedy show. she had to struggle a lot with discrimination around her career. She dealt with a lot of people who did not want to hire her, but it never stopped her.  Now she has a successful talk show and wins many awards. She made a lot people feel that it is ok to be a queer.  She inspires people to move forward and fight for their own future. She has supported and been greatly involved in gay community. She always brings awareness that there are still discrimination against queers and that we should keep fighting for equality and love.  Therefore, I added her information to the website to show a happy ending so that and overcoming of adversity that Ellen has done. This will give more motivation to queer people to keep moving forward.
